O-ringsWe carry an extensive range of o-rings (30 million plus) at our four units in Market Harborough, in the most common materials:
Nitrile (Buna / NBR) • Fluoroelastomer (FPM / FKM / Fluorocarbon / Viton®) • Silicone ( VMQ ) • Fluorosilicone (FVMQ ) • EPDM • Chloroprene / Neoprene® • PTFE • Polyurethane ( PU) • PTFE Encapulated Silicone and Viton® (FEP).
Additionally we can supply High Nitrile, HNBR, Aflas®, Butyl, Natural Rubber, Hypalon and many others – most in a range of colours and Shore Hardnesses. For those more demanding situations, we can also offer a range of Perfluroelastomers / FFKMs – including Kalrez®, Chemraz®, Isolast® and Perlast® amongst others. We are able to offer fully moulded non standard o-rings up to 700mm ID with a full range of cross sections in many materials, hardnesses and colours – without tooling costs and high production runs to tight lead times. For static applications with non standard sizes we can also offer Scarf Jointed and Vulcanised rings as cost effective alternatives to moulded rings.

Supplied as an endless extruded cord with an o-ring profile. O-ring cord can be used for cord rings (cold bond joined or vulcanised) which can then be fitted as static seals e.g. large o-rings, where standard sizes are unavailable, or for sealing flanges and container lids etc. It can be supplied in the following standard materials:
Nitrile • FPM(alternative to Viton ® Du Pont & Dow Elastomers) • Silicone • EPDM • Neoprene • FEP encapsulated
For more information on o-ring cord, see cord tolerances
Backup Rings are available in the following standard styles and materials:
- • Solid Split (PTFE) - used to eliminate extrusion of the O-ring at pressures above 100 bar
- • Spiral (PTFE) Used in cases where fluctuations in temperature occur. Even if there is any post-shrinkage of the backup ring, there will be at least one turn of the spiral along the surface of the O-ring to prevent any extrusion. Also can be adapted for non standard diameters, as the ring can be shortened to suit.
- • Parbak (NBR)
- 1. They are moulded in a one piece contoured design which improves performance by enabling the O-ring to keep it's shape under high pressure.
- 2. Can be stretched easily into place.
- 3. Parbaks do not cause the localised wear on o-rings, which is the characteristic of other types of backup ring.

HOW TO MAKE AN O-RING
To calculate the correct length of cord required, multiply the inside diameter of the o-ring by pi, then add 1x cord diameter. This will then give the correct length of cord required. Using the splicing aid and a very sharp knife, make a cut in the material at a right angle. All surfaces to be glued must be free of oil or grease. Avoid touching the surfaces. A thin layer of glue should be spread over one side of the cut. A thin layer provides the best results. In order to join the two sides cleanly, use the V section on the splicing aid. Match both surfaces together and press firmly for 15 seconds. The glue must dry for 60 seconds before mounting the O-ring.
Kits available: Kit S (11) and Kit SL (16)

National O-ring Gauge With this handy gadget, it's easy to determine the size of almost any British Standard size O-ring. Section size is identified by using the slots at the top. The BS size number of small O-rings can be found by matching them with the silhouettes along the sides of the gauge.
Larger O-rings are placed around the two halves of the appropriate spindles at the top of gauge. The slide is then extended until it is taut, and the BS size number is shown in one of the small windows near the top of the main body.
